Yin with Lyn
Frequently, we just need to find a safe place, to stretch and to embrace the mind body heart connection.
Yin with Lyn is that safe space, Yin yoga is all about slowing down and feeling grounded, whilst you stretch and flex. The poses are held for between one and six minutes with transitions being fluid, gentle and slow. Many students find Yin classes relaxing, but don’t be fooled Yin is not an easy option. Yin also energises and for many gives a release and reset. Frequently held emotions come up and it is normal to laugh or cry, important to notice and acknowledge any emotional response, don’t withhold, release, however you feel in your class is normal and it is acceptable and safe.
In Yin yoga we focus on the breath and practice conscious breathing to support the actions and the relaxation. It’s subtle; during your Yin class you stretch and work your muscles, fascia, joints and ligaments. The main purpose is to work the connective tissue throughout the body through stillness, connection and breathe. Just like other classes with Lyn, Yin practice improves flexibility, boosts circulation and builds the mind-body connection. Where Yin wins is its well known to help reduce stress, tension, anxiety, depression and soothe your mental health offering balance to the emotional aspects of you.
Although Yin yoga is a passive practice, it still works your body as it builds and improves the mind-body-heart connection. When we hold the poses for longer the deeper tissues are targeted. The connective tissue, ligaments, fascia and even the joints are subtly worked. Due to the almost completely static nature of the practice Yin yoga offers a safer method to apply stress to joints whilst strengthening them. This makes Yin yoga an excellent practice for those with chronic illness that impacts the joints.
Think of Yin as an increased meditative yoga style. You turn inwards as you hold the poses. The philosophy of Yin yoga suggests that when we release the tissues through this subtle, gentle practice blocked energy is removed from the body. With a long term interest and much studying of the chakras and as a long term advocate of yoga exercises to release blocked chakras Lyn practices Yin yoga regularly herself and benefits from the modern version of Yin yoga.
Yin yoga is suitable for experienced and beginners, it is especially useful for those who have experienced trauma of any type, and the feedback is that is excellent for improving mental health, makes the body feel stretched and flexed and relaxes both the mind and body. Lyn has been getting lots of positive feedback from those who have taken Yin classes and says that anyone thinking of Yin yoga should ensure that they go to a Yin experienced yoga teacher, or a new teacher trained in Yin to ensure that they can explore this type of yoga safely and effectively. Lyn studied Yin as part of her top up training in 2023, has done additional Yin training and is signed up for a yoga for mental health training course in early 2024 to further support mental health. People who practice weekly Yin yoga say they really notice when they miss a class. Lyn recommends booking a regular one to one or group session.
As well as a unique blend of Hatha, Yin and Recuperative yoga classes Lyn is delighted to lead Yin yoga in a beautiful Somerset countryside setting close to Bruton, Evercreech and Castle Cary. Occasional Yin classes available at Lydford Parish Hall subject to demand.
If you require a specifically relaxing and releasing Yin class then it is advisable to book a one to one or two to one class to ensure less energising asanas. That said, your body and mind will take what you need from your Yin class and it is normal to go in with expectations and for your mind-body-heart to take what is needed, not what your ego thought you needed.
